IDC visits Safal Steel

The IDC has embarked on a Road Show around Southern Africa in an effort to get in touch with South African entrepreneurs and therefore foster improved partnerships with the IDC.
The KZN leg of the IDC Road Show took place on Monday the 11th of April 2011 in Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
The IDC delegation, led by Mr Shakeel Meer- IDC’s Divisional Executive of Strategy, took the opportunity to visit SAFAL Steel which is a client of the IDC. The IDC  co-funded SAFAL together with EIB and IFC.
The IDC delegation received a very warm welcome and gained insight into SAFAL’s operations. The delegation was taken on a very enlightening tour of the SAFAL plant.
The delegation was particularly impressed with the high safety standards which are maintained at the plant. It was apparent that, although the plant is a fairly new operation, there was a culture of safety consciousness by all and this should bode for the plant as production increases.  Overall it was clear that this was an operation that was well-poised to carve out a niche for itself and become a viable competitor in the steel market.
As Shakeel Meer said in thanking the SAFAL team on our departure; “the IDC has no doubt that its investment is being put to good use. We wish SAFAL great success in the future.
Thank you for your warm hospitality!”
